I would use SaveAs method for that and communicate directly with the JPEG filter to set all the settings like compression, smoothing, optimization, etc.

Something along these lines (didn't have time to check this myself, so some of the commands may not be 100% correct. Just to give you an idea)

Dim flt As ExportFilter
Set flt = ActiveDocument.SaveAs(ActiveDocument.FullFileName, cdrJPG)
flt.Compression = 10
flt.Smoothing = 5
