when I need to use office's data files in corel, I always use pdf:

1. install any program to print to pdf (acrobat pro 4.0-7.0 - commercial, or any freeware prog like ghostscript or pdf995, or etc. look on

2. print from excel/word to pdf-printer (if possible, in printer's setup use fonts to curves, 'cause coreldraw's import of pdf with many text object is poor in my opinion)

3. import this pdf in coreldraw - so you'll have native corel objects - lines, text, etc.

4. if needed, select the imported objects and make them cmyk

I use this for files destined to offset printing, the best proven way I know
