I really don't notice much of a difference between Draw and Designer. How does the 3d functionality come into play. I have used AutoCAD before, but I just don't get Designer. Is there a set of tutorials out there somewhere that I can get a hold of?

It's mostly that Designer has a nice 3D importer that imports 3D models in 2D. Also Designer has some specific tools that Draw doesn't. For example, Projected Drawing mode where you can draw on planes of axonometric projection...

dd:
There are also some line editing functions that are huge time savers if you have to import and edit large imported vector files (in particular PS, DWG, and PDF). Leaders and Advanced Line Styles (ie., parallel lines, etc.) are pretty neat as well. Snapping features are more user friendly than Draw (for example, you can do just node snapping by merely press the N key while drawing or moving objects; you are not forced to go to a menu to select and deselect snapping functions). My personal opinion is that Designer is a better all around value than Draw is; at least for the type of work I do. Last edited by JSC; 28-10-2005 at 01:36. |

I prefer Designer also but for some things...I use Corel X3
I was going to switch to Designer..not upgrade the Corel Draw Suites but the upgrade in PhotoPaint X3 is worth the price I draw with the mouse, shade with the mouse, select with the mouse and I wanted to see which program had the best mouse control so I tried all the programs I could..some on friend's computers.. I tested Xara, Painter 9, PSP 8, Corel PhotoPaint 12, PhotoPaint X3, Designer, Corel Draw X3 and Art Weaver by writing words to see how the mouse responded.. Corel PhotoPaint X3 (pencil) was first with excellent mouse control, Designer (free hand tool) was a close second (a little sticky but smooth and fast) ..CorelDraw X3 was in the middle range..PhotoPaint 12 was last because of mouse latency and wandering..but not noticable unless it is compared to some other programs.Painter is so pretty..it was fun just to play with the "brushes" even when the "mouse control" for those brushes was somewhat (medium range) latent and wandering.. It may be my mousing and my computer that influenced the results but Designer and PhotoPaint X3 are the programs I use the most..It may be different for someone else.. |
