Default vertical text?

Hey lovely people,

Corel doesn't seem to have vertical text tool!!

Is there a macro to enable that?

I have tried a few tips from various places but none of them really work and can be kept as editable....

Ta.

SOLUTION POSTED HERE with free great tool from macromonster: http://macromonster.com/index.php?mo...&keyword=hotel

Default Part Solution :)

Well....

type text in artistic text.
convert to paragraph text.
expand paragraph box to make column (ensuring that in Tools -> Options -> Text than the Minimum Line Width property and reduce it from 3 to 1).
Add capitalization if neccessary to get the formatting correct
Justify text as required
convert back to artistic if needed

Not great but best i can come up with so far....

According to the X4 help file:

"Using the Pick tool, select the text, and click Text Paragraph formatting. In the Text direction area of the Paragraph formatting docker, choose either Horizontal or Vertical from the Orientation list box. "

But so far I haven't managed to find a text direction area in the paragraph formatting docker.

Text direction area, meanwhile, does not appear in the help index

Of course, you can get vertical text ... by simply typing a Return between all consecutive characters ...

A bit like:

T
H
I
S

(but probably together with Align Centre).

Default Vertical Text

Use the Bezier tool (or your tool of choice) to draw a STRAIGHT vertical line. Make it EXTRA long!!!!

Key-in your text (this can be done before step #1 ;^)

Pick your text and then Text> Fit Text to Path

Then pick the line that you created.

The text should be attached to the line, reading down.

In the Property bar, you should have a drop-down box on the far left (has ABC in it).

Click on the arrow to display the options and click on the last option.

Your text should be aligned vertical, reading from top to bottom. You can then use the SHAPE tool to space the letters apart (pick the SHAPE tool and then drag the right handle to the right). If you haven't made your initial line long enough, you'll have to re-do it.

Default That's good :)

Hey CSewell,

Thank you for that. It works well.
I have then discovered you can break the text apart, then use the Dizzy Shaping Tool to align all the characters at whatever spacing you require (very useful macro - i use it all the time).

Ta for your help.
