Angry Eps Export Problems

I am using CorelDraw 10 and am very disappointed in it. I'm constantly having
to click 2-4 times to select things. When scrolling sometimes there is a big
blank in the graphic from where it was off-screen and some functionality
from 9 is no longer available.

But the biggest complaint is that is does not want to export .eps to save it's
life. I either get a graphic that has a dark column somewhere in my image or it crashes the program all together. I have installed both patches and am still having problems. I'm still using .eps files for my older PageMaker documents that I don't want to convert to InDesign due to technical problems.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The newest CDGS, X3, has resolved a lot of these issues. I never used 10, so I can't say for sure about the "white" area.

My question is why are you still using PageMaker? Is it required by your output provider? Versions 11-X3 are quite good at handling multipage layouts. I use it (X3) exclusively and most of my Adobe products have fallen by the wayside. I only use PhotoShop for certain tasks that I already know how to do faster in it rather than learn how to do it in PhotoPaint.

The white area when scrolling sometimes happens in previous versions of CorelDRAW. In the X3 it seems to be fixed. If you ever happen to have this appear, just press Ctrl-W to refresh your screen.

As for EPS export, well I'm not quite sure. It seemed to have worked for me before but I can't say if that was in Draw 10 or earlier/later versions. I would try to restart CorelDRAW with the F8 key depressed to reset your settings. If this doesn't help, I would opt for complete reinstall of the application. Uninstall it, clean all the folders where it was installed and registryand then reinstall it along with the two service packs.

If this still doesn't work, then maybe attach a sample file you are having problems exporting to EPS and we can try to see if there is something else that can be done.

I have recently transitioned to InDesign from PageMaker. Not everyone here
has so I still use Pagemaker for the older documents. I also still use it
on very large old documents that have a lot of tables since I don't really want
to futz with double checking the tracking on 80+ pages. I learned the ctrl/w
thing a long time ago to get rid of the white space but it's still irritating.
We print mainly from PDF files now so InDesign and PageMaker are just our
layout programs.

Since not everyone here has transitioned to InDesign I still use .eps files
for udaptes to the old PageMaker docs. This is what makes the .eps export
problem I have now so frustrating. I'm trying to hang on until we can get our
hands on the latest CorelDraw release.

In my version of Corel, you can use a macro to export an .eps. In fact you can do it in batches.

See if you have that in the version you have.

When you finally do get X3, you will be amazed at the advances in the PDF workflow. Since you mainly print from PDF, the X3 PDF utilities are much improved over older versions of Draw. I never had 10, so I can't help much in that arena. We went straight from 8 to 11, 12, and now X3.

Also, when you do get to the new X3, remember to print to PDF, rather than publishing to PDF. It seems to be a little more stable than the Publish option in the File menu.

I use publish to .pdf all the time because it is easy to specify dpi, bleed and to choose separations when I am saving a file which has spot color. It saves .pdf up to 90% faster. And it does a much better job of recognizing the and you can get from point A to point B without an infinite number of dialogue boxes.
