Hi all,
I have noticed odd behavior of the .SetCustomIcon command. While importing icons onto a toolbar with use of VBA the colors of the icons differ from those expected. All of them are lighter and more vivid that intended. It happens regardless the format of the icon file (.ico, .bmp, .gif). On the other hand manual import of the icon file via Customization menu works perfectly. I wonder if this is the matter of palette used, or a matter of some kind of color correction. In order to ensure proper result I grabbed existing button image with Corel Capture, pasted to IconCool Editor, applied some changes and saved. Seemingly no color correction mechanizm seemed to be involved into the process. Do you have any idea why it happens? And do you know the best way to prepare properly looking icons for my macros? Best wishes, Tomasz |

This is because the icons can only have a limited color palette. Drives me NUTS that I can't have any color that I wish. (If you edit an icon in DRAW you will see the color palette.)
So what you are seeing is as designed, lets hope in futures version this will be corrected. -Shelby |

Thanks Shelby,
unfortunately I couldn't obtain better results in CorelPP either. I captured the button images with CorelTrace, pasted into CorelPP and extracted palette. Icons created in CorelPP with use of that palette still looks ugly. I think this is a problem with the order of the colors in the palette. Is it possible to find original Corel GUI palette somewhere? I have no idea were the palette is hiding, but I can tell you how to see it. In CorelDRAW right click on any icon on a tool bar. Customize| Toolbar Item| Properties| Click the Appearance Tab. Click on the Pen Color. There is your palette and like I have said, not a lot to choose from.

here's the palette
and 71rip is a part of ripped bitmap icon resource from DrawIntl.dll (use any resource editing software to get that, for example FAR's resource browser plugin) Last edited by wOxxOm; 16-08-2007 at 15:25. |

Shelbym, wOxxOm,
thank you for your help. I created two palettes - one with use of colors shown in customization window, and second with use of colors given by wOxxOm. I carefully preserved order of the colors. I tried to convert picture to 256color using the palettes as well as tried to export RGB using these palettes. Unfortunately the result was the same - weird colors. I will continue to try to find the solution. Best regards, Tomasz |
