How to select object inside another object

Other than dragging the selection box from outside another object to encapsule the smaller object inside, is there a slicker way to select the smaller object?

Is is a "group" of objects. If so you can select single objects in a group by left clicking while holding down CRTL. Hope it helps,

And if an object is covered by another object, Alt-Clicking the place where the object would be will select it. Continue clicking with Alt key depressed to "dig deeper".

It would be nice to select more than one object within the 'group'
