Default CD11 Convert to Bitmap -> CMYK to Gray scale problem

Hi, any suggestion to this problem in coreldraw11:
if I import a CMYK image and convert it in grayscale using Convert to Bitmap
with the Transparent background check box enabled, I will get an image with
high contrast, totally useless.
If the image is in RGB the grayscale conversion is a lot better (with
transparency on or off there is no difference).

It's look like a problem in color profile or 32 bit image(the alpha
channel).

Any Idea to solve the problem?
Thanks.
Xenio.

I can't offer any help on that one except to confirm that there is some kind of a problem here. It also presents itself in Draw 12 too...

Nice, I hate CD12 I will never upgrade.

Anyway, don't think the problem is something like the Halo problem you explained?
I mean the remapping of the color space?
http://www.oberonplace.com/draw/tricks/halo.htm
I have tested it with Saturation or Perceptual engine but the result is the same.
It looks like a convertion without the color correction. take a try.

Thanks Alex.

in my site I've uploaded a rar with 2 bitmap and a cdr

Quick question... Why "convert to bitmap" why not just change the mode to grayscale. That way you can go back and adjust the brightness and contrast as you see fit. I can email you the file that I created from your download. Just IM me or reply here. Attached is a JPG of the file...

Thanks ddonnahoe
quick answer you are right, changing the mode to grayscale does a great job...
but...the original images are 300 dpi so i need to reduce the dpi to 150 for the newspaper... anyway I can make this kind of reducing dpi in the export pdf filter.

Thanks this save me a lot of time.

If you need to change resolution, you can also go to Bitmap>Resample and do it there...

Yes, now I change the 'Mode' to grayscale and use resample or the option in PDF export,
anyway if someone want to test I the problem in in CD you can view my passage in a flash viewlet in my site...

That is one well done demonstration. I'll pass this on to the folks at Corel...
