dividing a curve into fixed distances between nodes

hi All,

Is it possible to divide a closed curve into fixed distances?

For ex, the dialog would allow:

Divide curve into:

the user would type "8"

regardless of where nodes in that shape are now, a brand new shape would be drawn with 9 nodes (for ex) to provide 8 equal-length pieces when the curve is broken apart.

the reason a new shape might be necessary is that a shape such as a box can't divide equally since there are sharp corner nodes.

I dunno, maybe I'm dreaming...
